A memorial service for the deeply respected Loren D. Lobban, a longtime member of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York, will be held at noon June 5, 2025, at the Alan R. Core Funeral Home, 1933 Kensington Ave.

Lobban — a dedicated and hardworking attorney, who began working in Buffalo in the 1970s, when the city had very few Black defense attorneys — died on May 9 after a brief illness. He was 78.

Lobban worked as an attorney in private practice for 35 years. He served for a brief time as a counsel to the Erie County Legislature before joining the Workers’ Compensation Board in 2010. In his state job, Lobban served on a panel of board members who decided on applications for workers’ compensation.

Lobban was active with the MBAWNY, and he chaired the Thurgood Marshall subdivision, which enabled us to engage in political activity because it was a 501(C)(5). He was also active with the Erie County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Born in New York City, he graduated from New Rochelle High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University and his law degree from the University at Buffalo School of Law. After earning his law degree in Buffalo, he earned another law degree from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, and a master’s in business administration from Medaille.

We extend heartfelt condolences to his family. Lobban is deeply missed. Please join us in holding his loved ones in your thoughts.
