This month we’re proud to spotlight Minority Bar Association of Western New York member Andrew J. Freedman!

Dedication to Education Law

Freedman focuses his practice on education law and has extensive experience counseling school districts and charter schools on the full range of complex legal challenges they face.

He has represented schools in proceedings before New York Courts and appeals to the Commissioner of Education. He advises school boards on their powers and duties under the New York State Education Law.

He also represents schools in labor and employment matters, student services, and special education litigation.

Commitment to Serving Western New York

On October 29, 2024, Freedman was appointed by the Chief Judge of the State of New York to serve as a member of the Richard C. Failla LGBTQ Commission. Freedman is Deputy Treasurer of the Bar Association of Erie County and Co-Chair of its LGBTQIA+ Committee.

He serves as a board member on the Minority Bar Foundation and Buffalo United Charter School. He is currently the Second Vice President for the New York State Association of School Attorneys and is a member of the MBAWNY.

UB Alumnus; Named Top Attorney

An alumnus of the University at Buffalo School of Law, Freedman was named one of the top education law attorneys by his peers in “Best Lawyers” and Buffalo Business First’s “Who’s Who in Law” on numerous occasions.

He taught Education Law as an adjunct professor at the University at Buffalo School of Law, Buffalo State University, and Canisius University.
