April 2025 Member Spotlight: Asia R. Evans, Esq.
For April 2025, we are pleased to spotlight Minority Bar Association of Western New York member Asia R. Evans, Esq.!
From Private Practice to Public Service
“Though I am no longer a ‘baby lawyer,’ I truly believe the trajectory of my career is just beginning,” says Evans.
Prior to her tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Labor Relations for Erie County, Evans practiced Labor and Employment law at Hodgson Russ, starting as a summer associate in 2020 (cleverly coined the “COVID class”). She received an official offer to be an associate in the firm’s Labor and Employment Group later that summer.
“While at Hodgson Russ, I had the pleasure of working alongside and learning from the best employment lawyers in the community,” says Evans.
Her practice was vast but can be summarized in three core areas: employment defense, workplace issues (e.g., discipline, investigations, policies, and leave-related matters), and municipal work from time to time (e.g., school law issues and traditional labor issues).
From Buffalo to Florida and Back; Board Service
Evans is a graduate of Buffalo State University and the Florida A&M University, College of Law (FAMU). While at FAMU, she was an active member of the law school’s Law Review and later appointed to the editorial board as Executive Articles Editor. She was an active member in the Black Law Students’ Association, a research associate, a teaching associate, and she was involved in client counseling.
She has been an active member of the MBAWNY, the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York – Western New York Chapter (WBASNY), and she currently serves on the Board of the Theatre of Youth (TOY).
